WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree will be lit Tuesday, marking the start of the holiday season in Washington D.C. This year’s “People’s Tree” is an 80-foot Sitka Spruce. It made the trip all the way from Alaska to take center stage on the National Mall for the holidays.

The tree was a gift from the San Carlos Apache Tribe and was harvested from the Point of Pines area, northeast of Globe.

The Alabama Capitol is getting into the holiday spirit. This year’s official State Christmas Tree has made its way to Alabama State Capitol from Bullock County. Governor Kay Ivey will hold the annual Capitol Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday evening.
