After days of intense firefights, Indian and Pakistani authorities said on Monday there were no reported incidents of firing overnight along the heavily militarized region between their countries, the first time in recent days that the two nations were not shooting at each other.

The Indian army said on Saturday that Pakistan was continuing its "blatant escalation" with drone strikes and using other munitions along India's western border, and its "enemy designs" would be thwarted.

People on both sides of the Line of Control, which divides the territory, reported heavy exchanges of fire between Indian and Pakistani troops. The fighting subsided by Sunday morning.
