Indigo takes Mahindra to court over trademark infringement of "6E" in electric vehicle, BE 6e, seeking injunction.

Indian Mahindra and Mahindra on Tuesday said it is in talks to resolve a dispute with the country's biggest airline IndiGo which has filed a court challenge against the use of its call sign "6e" in the automaker's new electric vehicle offering.

In a filing with the stock exchanges, M&M said that it does not see any conflict with IndiGo pertaining the trademarks, and that along with MEAL, it is in talks with the airline to arrive at an “amicable solution”.

IndiGo claims "6E" is not only its official designator, but also a key element of its branding, covering a range of services like 6E Prime, 6E Flex, and add-ons

After InterGlobe Aviation, which operates IndiGo airline, filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against Mahindra Electric for using ‘6E’ in its new car, the automaker said on Tuesday they do not see a conflict and are engaged in discussions with the budget airline to find an amicable solution.

The dispute concerns IndiGo’s trademark “6E,” registered under Classes 39, 16, 9, and 35, primarily for airline services, transport, and advertising, and Mahindra’s use of “BE 6e” under Class 12 for vehicles,

InterGlobe Aviation, which operates IndiGo airlines, took Mahindra Electric Automobile Limited to Delhi High Court for using ‘6E’ in its new car called Mahindra BE 6e , which is expected to be released in February 2025, reported Bar and Bench on December 3. The case will come up for hearing on December 9, said the report.
