STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Memorial Day is a holiday on which the nation honors those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. In some cases, that appreciation comes in the form of patriotic parades, which can result in road closures. This is the case for this weekend in New York City, as many of these processions are taking place.

A Memorial Day service at the Cicero Cemetery, 8554 Brewerton Road precedes the parade at 10:30 a.m. Parade will begin at 11 a.m. at Brewerton Road and end at the American Legion on Legionnaire Drive. There will be a memorial service at the Legion monument followed by a lunch.

Get ready for some long trips. AAA predicts that during peak congestion time for the New York region on Monday, a trip from the Jersey Shore to New York City via the Garden State Parkway would take an expected 2 hours and 24 minutes — 92% longer than last year.

The parade begins Saturday May 24th 10AM at Lonergan Park and ends at Veterans Memorial Park, where VFW Post 7290 will hold a memorial service.
