In a significant restructuring effort, Walgreens has announced the closure of 1,200 underperforming stores across the United States, with one of the affected locations situated at the intersection of Garrison Boulevard and Liberty Heights in Northwest Baltimore.

Walgreens plans to close 1,200 stores over three years. After 70 closed September to November 2024, 450 more will close in 2025, the company says.

Walgreens closed 70 in its fiscal first quarter and plans to shutter around 500 this year. The company runs about 8,500 locations in the U.S. and Puerto Rico as well as a few thousand stores in Europe and Asia.

Walgreens announced in 2024 it would be closing about 1,200 stores across the U.S. as it struggles with slumping consumer spending. The company plans to close about 500 stores in fiscal 2025, which ends in August 2025.
