Aston Villa earned a 3-1 win away to Club Brugge in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie in Belgium on Tuesday, thanks to an own goal and a penalty kick in the final eight minutes.

Aston Villa will be favourites to progress to the Champions League quarter-finals after scoring two late goals to beat Club Brugge in Belgium. Leon Bailey had given the Premier League club a lightning start in the last-16 first-leg tie - Villa's first knockout tie in European football's premier competition since the 1982-83 quarter-finals.

Asensio, on as a substitute, then converted an 88th-minute penalty, his fifth goal in four games wrapping up the victory which puts the 1982 European Cup winner in a very strong position.
