Most people think of moths as small insects fluttering across porch lights, but some species greatly challenge that image.

Eggs hatch in late spring. Caterpillars eat leaves through midsummer. Caterpillars pupate and transform into moths in late July and August. Moths live only a few days to mate, lay eggs and then die.
