Quarterback Tyler Shough never faced the University of Washington football team in his three seasons at Oregon. Two schools later, he's made sure that won't happen at Louisville either after he opted out of playing against the Huskies on Dec.

Louisville football will be without Tyler Shough for its Sun Bowl game vs Washington. The Louisville QB will instead focus on 2025 NFL Draft prep.

In Brohm's first season last year, while Louisville went 10-4 overall, they dropped their last three games of the season, capped off by a beatdown at the hands of the Trojans. This year, they have the opportunity to pull off the opposite, as they head into the Sun Bowl having won their last two games vs. Pitt and at Kentucky in blowout fashion.

"It's a very active time without question," Louisville coach Jeff Brohm said on a Zoom call to discuss the Sun Bowl. "You're trying to maintain your roster, trying to deal with the open portal situation and make some additions based on subtractions that are already happening through graduation and guys moving on. It makes it busy.

Washington will play ACC-opponent Louisville in the 2024 Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas on Dec. 31, the Sun Bowl committee announced on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. and the game will be broadcast on CBS. It’s the 43rd bowl selection in program history and the first meeting between UW and Louisville on the football field.

Fisch could be disappointed at Washington, and perhaps internally he is, but on the outside, he's made it clear that he absolutely sees value for his team in playing in the Sun Bowl — or any non-CFP bowl game for that matter.

The 90th playing of the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl brings together two teams, Louisville and Washington, who aren't familiar with each other and, for the most part, aren't familiar with El Paso. This will be Washington's fifth appearance in the Sun Bowl but their first since 2002.
