Michigan has 24 tornadoes so far this year, according to the National Weather Service. That's nearly twice the 30-year annual average of 13 tornadoes.

There was a lot of straight-line wind action that did damage to homes, uprooted trees and downed power lines during the powerful storm that swept Michigan on Thursday night and Friday morning. But the National Weather Service says there were also several weak tornadoes spinning up along the storm’s leading edge.

The National Weather Service confirms that three touched down in Genesee, Livingston and Saginaw counties after overnight severe storms on Thursday.
