With that being said, part of the arena deal was an effort to bring a WNBA team team to Philadelphia. The Sixers appear to be following through on that part of the agreement as go

Tilman Fertitta, the owner of the Houston Rockets, has also submitted a bid to the WNBA for an expansion team, a spokesperson for the Rockets confirmed to The Athletic. The prospective team would play its games at the Toyota Center, where the Rockets play.

The Sixers and Comcast Spectacor said they'd pursue a bid after their deal to build an arena in the sports complex. It's unclear when a team would launch if the city were awarded one.
