Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC said fourth-quarter net profit rose 57% to a record on Thursday, in line with expectations, as it benefits from surging demand for semiconductors used in artificial intelligence processing.

U.S.-listed shares of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. rose in premarket trading Thursday after the world's largest contract chip manufacturer posted better-than-expected fourth-quarter profit and a bullish outlook for artificial intelligence demand.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company ( TSM, Financial) shares jumped nearly 4% on Thursday after the company posted strong fourth-quarter earnings. The semiconductor giant reported a net income of $11.59 billion and an EPS of $2.24. The results beat Wall Street expectations, with analysts' expectations for EPS of $2.16.

The company revealed net income rose 57% for the final quarter of 2024, while revenue increased 37% to almost $27 billion.
