A man has died from his injuries in a shooting this afternoon on South Bend’s southeast side. Police were called around 1:45 p.m. to the 800 block of E. Indiana Avenue. The man was taken to the hospital,

South Bend Police said there is no current threat to the public and more information will be available as their investigation unfolds.

The St. Joseph County Police Department had been investigating the disappearance of 77-year-old Remie Martens, of South Bend, who had last been seen around 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25. A Silver Alert was issued around 9:15 p.m. that evening.

On Thursday morning, the South Bend Police Department publicly identified the victim of Wednesday’s homicide on E. Indiana Avenue as 31-year-old Damien Wafford, Jr. of South Bend.

AWS is holding a job networking event Thursday, Feb. 27, at Monroe’s Crossing on Hudson Lake in New Carlisle.
