The Detroit Lions have officially announced the hires of Broncos pass game coordinator John Morton as OC and LB coach Kelvin Sheppard as DC  Morton and Sheppard will replace new Bears HC Ben Johnson and new Jets HC Aaron Glenn who served in their roles since 2022 and 2021,

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garofolo, the team is promoting LBs coach Kelvin Sheppard to defensive coordinator. He'll take over for new New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn.

The Lions lost offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, now head coach of the Chicago Bears, and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, the next New York Jets coach, and will spend the first part of the 2025 offseason looking for replacements. Head coach Dan Campbell is looking for his third offensive coordinator since taking over in January 2021.

The deals are signed and the Lions have officially announced that Morton and Sheppard will replace Johnson and Glenn, ushering in a new era for the franchise.

Morton was Detroit’s senior offensive assistant in 2022 under head coach Dan Campbell before heading to Denver to be the club’s passing game coordinator for the last two seasons. He previously worked with Campbell in New Orleans in 2016 when Campbell was the team’s tight ends coach and Morton was the receivers coach.
