The Kentucky Thoroughbred Association has come out in opposition to the decoupling proposal put forth in Florida, which could lead to racing at Gulfstream Park being terminated by 2028. Florida horsemen were told last week that racing will run into 2028 if legislation is passed in the state capitol permitting Thoroughbred tracks to decouple or eliminate the requirement to conduct live racing in order to maintain operations of a slot machine casino.

KTA/KTOB in a Jan. 20 statement said live racing and alternative forms of gaming can create a business climate that benefits all constituents if managed properly. "Decoupling is not it," said executive director Chauncey Morris.
