Neymar’s move from Al-Hilal to Brazilian club Santos means the Saudi Pro League has lost one of its most high-profile players.

Neymar and Al Hilal will part ways after the Brazilian soccer star and the Saudi Pro League agreed “to terminate their contractual relationship by mutual consent,” the club announced late Monday. His departure opens the door for a reported return to his youth club in Brazil.

Neymar has agreed to return to Santos nearly 12 years after he left the Brazilian team, club president Marcelo Teixeira said Tuesday. The Brazil striker confirmed earlier that his contract with Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal had been terminated by mutual consent.

Santos: A tearful Neymar was welcomed back to his boyhood club on Friday by thousands of Santos fans and a concert in the home stadium beneath an electronic sign saying, “The prince is back.” The 32-year-old signed a six-month contract, which he said could be extended.
