BAFTA Nominations have been announced, and to much surprise, highly-anticipated films like Queer, Challengers, Babygirl, and Paddington In Peru did not make the cut.

The film’s star Fiennes is nominated in the leading actor category, where he will go head to head with Adrien Brody for immigrant tale The Brutalist, Timothee Chalamet for Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown and Colman Domingo for Sing Sing, about prisoners becoming part of a theatre group.

Saoirse Ronan and Hugh Grant make surprise appearances on the shortlist, ahead of the awards ceremony next month.

The frontrunners in the Bafta acting categories include Cynthia Erivo and Demi Moore for lead actress and Adrien Brody and Timothee Chalamet for lead actor. But Denzel Washington and Daniel Craig failed to make the shortlist for Gladiator II and Queer respectively.

The star was nominated for Golden Globe, Critics' Choice and SAG awards, though has been what many would call snubbed by the British Academy in his native U.K.
