“Landman” is co-created and executive produced by Sheridan and Christian Wallace, who wrote and hosted the Texas Monthly’s podcast “Boomtown,” which the series is based on. The series premiered on Paramount+ in November 2024 and wrapped its 10-episode run on Jan. 12.

Although Monty's fate was left on a bit of an open-ended note, Hamm himself and series co-creator Christian Wallace have confirmed that the character is indeed dead.

The main character Tommy Norris - played by Billy Bob Thornton - was the 'landman' - essentially Monty's right-hand man. Monty's health was failing towards the end of the season, as it was revealed he had five heart attacks and underwent his third bypass surgery.

With Landman having not yet been officially renewed, it's hard to say who from the cast would be back for season 2. We would certainly expect Billy Bob Thornton to be back, while some cast members such as Jacob Lofland and Paulina Chávez have expressed their own expectation to return.
