It has been a busy few days for the repairs and restoration of utility service in a Detroit neighborhood that was flooded during a water main break. Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) Director Gary Brown will provide an update on repair efforts Thursday morning.

The water transmission main that burst in mid-February and flooded a Southwest Detroit neighborhood has been repaired.

The water pipes are repaired in the Southwest Detroit neighborhood that just weeks ago was frozen in floodwaters from a 54-inch water main break. As of Wednesday, repairs were completed on the Great Lakes Water Authority’s 93-year-old water transmission main.

The massive 54-inch water main that broke open last month in Southwest Detroit has been repaired as authorities work to restore water and repair affected homes.

The Great Lakes Water Authority said water testing should be done by the end of the week. The city said it will be at least five weeks before residents can return home.

All furnaces and hot water tanks impacted by the water main break in Southwest Detroit are expected to be replaced by early next week.
