SAN DIEGO — A man was shot and killed by a San Diego police officer Tuesday night near the Santa Fe Depot train station downtown, the San Diego County Sheriff's Office said.

Officers fatally shot Andrew Engel, 26, after responding to call of a man who was reportedly suicidal and in possession of a knife

The shooting happened near the Santa Fe Depot at about 8:50 p.m., according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, which is investigating the shooting under a county-wide memorandum that prevents law enforcement agencies from investigating incidents involving their own officers.

An investigation has been launched into an in-custody death that happened while a man was being detained following an altercation at a downtown San Diego bar Saturday night.

A 33-year-old man is dead after being shot at an apartment complex West of downtown, San Antonio police said. When officers arrived around 5 p.m. in the 200 block of Torreon Street, they found a man with a gunshot wound to the center of his body.
