Concord was a genre-defining disaster for Sony, so has it caused PlayStation to rethink its entire live service approach?

Sony has canceled two unannounced live service games. According to Bloomberg, a Sony spokesperson confirmed that they were canceled "following a recent review”. They were in development at two PlayStation studios, Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games.

There are still a couple more live-service games in progress under PlayStation, including Bungie’s Marathon and rumored games like a Horizon MMO. But if these titles are still set to launch, they will need to perform well out of the gate like Sony’s rare live-service success in Helldivers 2, or they risk being taken offline as well.

Sony is said to be cancelling two PlayStation live service projects, and one of them is a live service God of War game.

Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida has said he would have tried to resist Sony’s controversial live service video game push. Yoshida, who was President of SIE Worldwide Studios for Sony Interactive Entertainment from 2008 to 2019, told Kinda Funny Games that Sony always knew its investment in live service games was risky.

Sony's live service plans take another blow with the cancellation of two more previously announced games, with one title fans were hoping for.

According to Jeff Grubb, the high-profile failure of Concord has Sony reassessing all of its faltering live-service projects.
