A federal judge has halted President Donald Trump’s latest attempt to block international students from coming to Harvard University. The temporary restraining order issued late Thursday by US District Judge Allison Burroughs came hours after the university urged the judge to step in on an emergency basis to block a proclamation Trump signed a day earlier that suspends international visas for new students.
More than 1.2 million international students had visas through nearly 500 US universities in 2023, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
More than 24,000 international students from the affected countries studied in the U.S. as recently as the 2023-2024 academic year.
