Brightline talks between Martin County, Stuart deadlock over philosophical differences
At the heart of the deadlock are philosophical differences, with Stuart Vice Mayor Christopher Collins maintaining there can be no agreement without Brightline paying for part of the station. Otherwise, taxpayers are funding the entire project, he said, whether grant money comes from the county or federal government.

This debate stems from a decision last year when Brightline selected Stuart for its Treasure Coast stop. Initially, both the city and county supported the project. But months later, the newly elected Stuart City Commission rescinded a land lease agreement with Brightline, essentially pulling out of the deal.
