The lander is also carrying a small rover called MAPP (Mobile Autonomous Prospecting Platform), which was built by the Colorado company Lunar Outpost.
Athena, the private lunar lander from Intuitive Machines, missed its mark while landing on the moon Thursday and ended up sideways in a frigid crater. It did, however, manage to send back pictures confirming its position and activate a few experiments before going silent.
Intuitive Machines' Athena spacecraft made it to the moon's surface but its status remains undetermined, according to CEO Stephen Altemus.
