In the hockey world, this is the roadmap of Jon Cooper’s career, a meandering journey that started in his western Canadian hometown and featured stops in places like Green Bay, Wisconsin and Texarkana, Arkansas before culminating in helping to bring a pair of Stanley Cup titles to the Sunshine State (2021, 2022) as coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The franchise's leader in game-winning goals potted the 60th of his career on a one-timer teed up by Martin Necas 59 seconds into the extra frame, converting the only shot attempted by either club in overtime. Aho has scored the game-winner in all four of Carolina's overtime victories this season.

SALT LAKE CITY -- Barrett Hayton scored and had two assists, and the Utah Hockey Club defeated the Winnipeg Jets 5-2 at Delta Center on Monday.

The Winnipeg Jets dropped their second game in a row with a 5-2 loss in Salt Lake City to the Utah Hockey Club. Nino Niederreiter and Dylan DeMelo scored for Winnipeg and Nikolaj Ehlers recorded two assists as the Jets record fell to 31-14-3.

The Isles scored a 3-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets at UBS Arena, closing the gap from eight points to six against a team that started the day in the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.

CHICAGO -- Sebastian Aho scored 59 seconds into overtime to give the Carolina Hurricanes a 4-3 victory against the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center on Monday. Frederik Andersen, playing for the first time since Oct. 26 because of a knee injury, made 22 saves for the Hurricanes (28-16-3) in his 500th NHL game.

NEWARK, N.J. -- It wasn’t until the last period of the last game of the 1995 Stanley Cup Final that New Jersey Devils coach Jacques Lemaire finally thought to himself, ‘You know, this might be possible.’ Lemaire was coach of the Devils, who swept the Detroit Red Wings in the ’95 Final for the franchise’s first championship.

The Sabres staged a comeback in the second period, tying the score at 3-3 on goals from Jason Zucker and Thompson. Once again, the Kraken responded quickly, with defenseman Jamie Oleksiak pinching down from the offensive blue line to bury a one-timer just 56 seconds after Thompson had scored the tying goal.

TORONTO -- Auston Matthews scored for the fourth straight game and had an assist for the Toronto Maple Leafs in a 5-3 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Scotiabank Arena on Monday. The goal was also Matthews’ seventh in the past seven games.

ELMONT, N.Y. -- Bo Horvat scored twice for the New York Islanders in a 3-1 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets at UBS Arena on Monday. Simon Holmstrom also scored, and Mathew Barzal had two assists for the Islanders (19-20-7), who have won two straight. Ilya Sorokin made 25 saves.
