Matty Beniers had a goal and an assist and goaltender Philipp Grubauer made 23 saves for his first victory since Dec. 30 as the Seattle Kraken defeated the host Philadelphia Flyers 4-1 Saturday afternoon.
It was a much better game, but the result was the same. The Flyers lost, 5-2, to the Ottawa Senators, extending their losing streak to five games. Brady Tkachuk gave the Senators a 1-0 lead in the first period.
Tippett opened the scoring in the first when he drove wide around Ryker Evans, cut hard and scored on the forehand. It was his 19th goal of the season (36 points; 148 shots). One more, and Tippett will have his third straight 20-goal season.
Matty Beniers, Chandler Stephenson and Tye Kartye scored in the second period, helping the Seattle Kraken beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-1.
The resurgent Ottawa Senators will aim for their fourth straight victory on Tuesday when they visit the scuffling Philadelphia Flyers.
Dawson Mercer hit the post at 4:29 of the second as he ripped a shot from the deep slot. New Jersey extended the lead to 2-0 at 5:39 as Erik Haula (5th) scored from the right circle. A Brenden Dillon point shot was blocked down before Johnathan Kovacevic passed to an oncoming Haula.
After Friday’s flurry of Flyers trades, a letdown of sorts against the Seattle Kraken was hardly unexpected on Saturday afternoon. But few would have guessed the Philadelphia squad
At the buzzer, Olle Lycksell was called for a holding penalty on Burakovsky. The Kraken took a full two minute power play into the second period. First period shots on goal favored the Flyers, 11-7. Samuel Ersson stopped all seven pucks that came his way.
The loss to Seattle wasn’t for a lack of effort. The Flyers were all over the offensive zone for large stretches of the game, cycling the puck well, creating high-danger chances, and generally doing everything except putting the puck in the net. It was one of those nights where it seemed like no matter what they did, nothing went in.
