(WABI) - The Boston Red Sox won their first ever game on May 8th 1901, when they were known as the ‘Boston Americans’. 124 years, 1 month and 27 days later the franchise won their 10,000th game ever. On Saturday the Red Sox defeated the Washington Nationals 10-3 to reach the historic milestone.

The Sox were all the rage at Atlanta’s All-Star week. Respected national media members Ken Rosenthal and Jeff Passan spoke of Boston as a serious World Series contender.
