FORT WORTH, Texas — Ben Griffin has his first individual PGA Tour victory a month after winning a team event, hanging on to beat Matti Schmid at Colonial after breaking a tie with his co-leader for good on the first hole Sunday.

After having a full year to settle, the reaction to Colonial is that it could become one of the Tour's most interesting weeks.

Ben Griffin came in guns blazing in the PGA Tour's Schwab Challenge on May 25 with an eagle-birdie start in the final round to break away from a tie with Matti Schmid to start the day. Griffin didn't make another birdie at the Colonial Country Club but saved enough nerve-rattling pars and took advantage of Schmid's series of errors to win by one shot at 12-under-par 268.

Isaiah Salinda battled over the opening two rounds to make the cut at the Charles Schwab Challenge, but the 28-year-old will not feature in the third round on Saturday
