Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested on charges of sedition and subsequently denied bail, sparking protests across Bangladesh

Bangladesh: Advocate Ramen Roy, the lawyer who is defending Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das, has been brutally attacked in Bangladesh and is in the ICU, ISKCON Kolkata spokesperson Radharamn Das claimed on Monday.

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has strongly dismissed claims that it has distanced itself from Chinmoy Krishna Das, the Hindu monk who was recently arrested in Bangladesh. The organisation reaffirmed its support for Das and called for the protection of Hindus and their places of worship in the country.

The ban was reportedly imposed in a letter issued by ISKCON’s CPT in the UK on October 6 last year. The organisation maintained that the ban has not been lifted as of now.

Iskcon spokesperson Radharamn Das said on Monday that Advocate Ramen Roy, who had represented Bangladeshi Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Prabhu in a legal case, was brutally assaulted in Bangladesh and is now hospitalised in critical condition.

ISKCON clarified that Chinmoy was removed from all positions long ago due to violations of organizational discipline.

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has expressed solidarity with former priest Chinmoy Krishna Das, who was arrested on charges of sedition for allegedly raising a flag on a stand displaying Bangladesh’s national flag.

"We strongly protest such arrests and appeal to the Bangladesh government to give protection to minorities,” claimed Radharamn Das, the vice-president and spokesperson of ISKCON.

Iskcon Bangladesh’ general secretary Charu Chandra Das Brahmachari said monk Chinmoy was removed from all positions within the organisation long ago due to a breach of organisational discipline.

ISKCON distances itself from Das, who, it says, was expelled from religious organisation earlier. He was arrested on charges of dishonouring Bangladesh's national flag.
