I found this to be an effective setup variation for one-arm dumbbell rows, holding onto a vertical barbell in the other hand instead of setting your hand on a bench. Instead of creating a push/pull through the core when rowing, it's a pull/pull, activating the lat on the non-working side to some degree as well, which changes the dynamics of the exercise. It forces you to use less weight but with better form because there is very little tendency to hitch your body to move the weight with momentum
