US ASYLUM DEAL The refugee deal with the United States nearly fell apart in early February, with Donald Trump calling the deal “dumb’. It seems it’s now back on, with an elusive condition attached that all applicants will be subject to “’extreme vetting”. Australia has already determined that there are 1,600 genuine refugees among 2,077 asylum seekers on Papua New Guinea and Nauru.
