The first flight of the Grumman F7F Tigercat was on this day, November 2, 1943. It missed WWII by a matter of hours for frontline service but was one of the fastest fighters of the era. It had its day in the Korean War before quickly becoming obsolete with the onset of more powerful jet engines.
