Laurel is a very spicy puppycat! This grey fox kit was so weak when she arrived that she didn’t resist us at all during all of her initial exams, first aid, and vaccines. Now that she’s feeling better, she makes it abundantly clear that she would like to be left alone. It’s a difficult balancing act for animals as small as her because she needs to be examined and weighed at least twice a day but we don’t want to stress her (or get her too used to being around people). Something unexpected has happened. The remaining grey fox kit has befriended the 2 most recently soft released raccoons. They have taken up residence together, under my back deck. It’s a gift to be able to watch them interact. I had noticed that recently the fox kit had seemed lonely since his litter mates had left. Now he is happy and occupied with his new friends and like most young mammals, could care less that his playmates are a different species. We can learn so much from animals. https://
